The Maple Leaf tartan is an “unofficial” Canadian tartan, in that no legislation has been passed by the Canadian parliament pronouncing it to be an officially recognized emblem of Canada. However, in 2008, it was registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority when national Tartan Day was instituted.
